Project:
Manhattan Middle School
2017
Boulder, CO

Overview
In a transformative project for Manhattan Middle School, originally built in 1940, our team at Fransen Pittman embarked on a comprehensive renovation during the limited timeframe of summer break, a challenge we affectionately term "summer wonders." This extensive overhaul aimed to enhance the school's facilities, ensuring they met the evolving educational needs of its students.

The project encompassed the construction of a new gymnasium, updates to the locker rooms, a boiler system upgrade, and a significant retrofit of the library to introduce natural light and improve the learning environment. Additionally, we reimagined the school's courtyard, bolstered security measures, redesigned the entrance vestibule for a more welcoming entry, and implemented crucial updates to the cafeteria.
A hands-on endeavor from start to finish, this project was not only about meeting the immediate needs of the school but also about adapting to the unique requirements of an educational setting. The transformation was particularly notable in the library, where the introduction of natural light and new seating areas now afford students breathtaking views of the Flatirons, creating an inspiring backdrop for learning and discovery.
The completion of this project marked a significant milestone, delivering a modern, functional space ready to welcome students back for the new term. The staff's amazement at the transformation—especially the dramatic change in the library—underscored the success of our efforts to create an environment conducive to education and growth.
